Google Sitemaps: Can You Really Get All Your Pages Indexed?
Google has recently introduced a free service called called Google Sitemaps. By using the sitemap generator suggested by Google, or your own generator, to create a list of all the URL’s you want indexed; Google suggests they will be able to spider a website quicker and more completely.
In order to complete the process, you need to create and upload a sitemap in one of two formats to your website. Then add it to your list of sitemaps in your free Google account.
I just setup text based sitemaps for Google this last weekend for several sites so, I don’t have first hand experience yet about how fast or completely Google is indexing pages that aren’t already in the index. However, comments I have read from others suggest that within just a few days Google has sent robots to completely spider their sites and new pages have shown up soon afterwards in the Google index.
One word of caution: The Google Sitemap Generator is a bit difficult to understand when setting up to create a sitemap. In fact, I resorted to using a different method available to me to create a text file of all my URL’s and submit that file to Google. I’ll keep you posted on my Google indexing progress.
Go to Google Sitemaps to get started.
