Are All Democrats Idiots?

Congressman Murtha’s call for a withdraw from Iraq is the straw that broke the camel’s back. Murtha has a distinguished record as a former Marine and supporter of our military so how does this man justify turning tail in the middle of the war on terror? Does he believe the terrorists will leave us alone if we just pull out of Iraq? Would he rather the battle be engaged in New York or California or maybe Washington instead of Iraq and Afghanistan?

Even former President Bill Clinton has called the war a mistake – and doing so on foreign soil. Many voices in the Democratic party have suggested and even outright stated that President Bush lied to the American People and Congress about the intelligence that led up to the war. Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Edward Kennedy, Hillary Clinton and others have all rushed to, in essence, call the President a liar and otherwise undermine our war effort. Can someone in a position of responsibility really say that without offering proof to substantiate their statements? Can they or should they publicly undermine the war effort? Can we ever win a war again with our policy makers making such bold public statements in the middle of a war?

When the Germans pushed the Allies back to Brittan during World War II the country and our politicians didn’t call for retreat, they just got tougher. If similar statements as those being bandied about by politicians today had been made during World War II they wouldn’t have had to wait for November to be voted out of office. The people would have removed them immediately with a recall vote. We didn’t have public discussion about bringing our troops home while the war was raging and our soldiers were risking and losing their lives for us. We didn’t give up, we finished the job and our lives are better because of it. We are free today because of it. What is wrong with this picture today?

Have the Democrats forgotten how they were complicit in the march toward the Iraq war? Have they forgotten our grief on 9/11? Have they forgotten their own statements about the need for action in Iraq? Can they really claim they didn’t have the facts and it is the President’s fault for deceiving them? Can we really abandon Iraq now and leave it for our enemy to shape?

I don’t think so. The Clintons had the same intelligence President Bush received while Bill was in office just months earlier. Senators and Congressmen have an obligation to their constituents to do their own intelligence investigation from the same sources available to the President before voting on policy. Many did not.

Regardless, is it good for the country for some politicians to make unfounded accusations of lying by the President and calls for immediate withdraw from Iraq? No! Those making such statements in public are doing nothing more than trying to politicize the war for their own advantage. It has nothing to do with the good of the country or for providing for the security of our families or our armed forces. Those making such statements are, in my opinion, borderline traitors. Yes, traitors. They are not engaging in quiet meaningful debate about the direction our country should follow. They are professing obviously untrue and extremely unwise statements that are leading to the emboldenment of our enemies and the disolutionment of our nation. They are increasing the dangers and risks for our troops and, indeed, the American people. They should be removed from the offices they hold.

Next November, when us voters visit the polls again, we must remember the public statements made by those who would as soon cause harm to our country as to further their own political ambitions and vote these irresponsible fools out of office.
