How To Get Published Online

Wally wrote this just before lunchtime:

Writer It is a hard-hitting fact: getting published is not as easy as it seems. Your work will pass from one editor to another and before you know it, it will find itself down the trash shoot.

The popularity of online publishing has skyrocketed in recent years. Many aspiring writers have turned to online publishing as their choice to make themselves heard in the public forum. And with the Internet having become a widely-accepted print medium, these writers have found a certain fulfillment from doing so.

Want to get published online? Here are some venues you can use to voice your opinions and thoughts to the world.

Blogs And Online Journals

The easiest way to get published online is through blogging. Sign up at famous blogging sites like Blogger (which supposedly pioneered such online journalism), LiveJournal, Xanga or even a Friendster blog so you can immediately post your thoughts for everyone to read. Of course, it takes a lot of publicity and promoting before your personal blogging site becomes a hit.

A blog is technically a “web blog.” It is an Internet-based publication ranging from personal diaries to political opinion. A blogger, through content management systems or blogware such as WordPress, publishes his thoughts which spur public comments.

Blogs began around 2002 with just a few web blogs. Today, even soldiers in Iraq have their “milblogs”! Politicians have also resorted to blogging to express their opinions on the current state affairs. Most blogs are run by people just like you and me in an effort to provide information and opinions to Internet surfers and get them to respond.

Ezines

Online publishing also can refer to publishing an article in an ezine or electronic magazine. An ezine is a email containing web articles and information and is usually emailed to a list of subscribers, or just posted on a website. Every ezine caters to a certain topic, much like “Financial Freedom,” “Wealth Maker,” “The Weekly Profit Pill” cater to those interested in finance, “Funny Side Up,” “Joke, Make My Day,” “JokeEmail” to those wanting to read jokes, “Travel Special” and “Hot Travel Deals” to those seeking travel tips and “Successful Online Business,” “Website Success Monthly” and “Web Profit” to those interested in Internet marketing businesses.

Ezine publishing does require quite a bit of effort to obtain content, find subscribers, send out the emails and promote the ezine! But if you are up to the challenge, you can create your own ezine, write articles to publish and get friends and other business people to contribute content! It is like making online publishing tons of fun!

Articles

Another way to get published online is to write articles on topics you have knowledge of and submit them to article directories! If your article has good unique content websites will pick up your article from the directory and post it on their website.

Writing articles is not really difficult. You just need to follow a few rules:

a. Know your topics keywords. Keywords are important for headlines and should be repeated in the article a time or two for proper Keyword density.

b. Bold or italicize one your keywords. Use this sparingly and only on the main keywords.

c. Submit your articles to article directory websites and article publishers. You may even want to consider using an article submission service.

Web Content

Writing web content is much like writing articles. Web content is basically everything you see written in a website from the opening remarks about the sites mission to the information the website is providing to its visitors. Some content copied from print, others are solely written for an Internet audience.

Many people underestimate the challenge of creating online publishing, thinking that it’s easy to write, that everyone can do it. What they don’t understand is that writing is somewhat of an art and that there are certain rules that must be followed to make content flow easily and coherently for the reader. The creation of online content is an an craft that can be learned.

Establishing a popular website requires knowing much about online publishing dynamics. These include understanding and writing to your visitors needs and likes and listening to their comments about the content you are providing.

The Internet has become one of the world’s most powerful tools for the dissemination of information and online publishing today is just as important as print publishing. Many people now look to the World Wide Web for their daily news, foregoing the usual periodicals. Write about what your readers want to know and the world will beat a path to your door.
