Obama has a history of dealing with questionable characters who donate large amounts to his campaign or give him other support. These people all too often find themselves the beneficiary of large government grants or earmarks. Here are a few of those people:

Tony Rezko - The Chicago developer convicted of corruption. Helped Obama purchase his million dollar Chicago home and adjacent property. According to the Chicago Sun Times Rezko and his associates also made donations totaling $168,308 to Obama’s campaigns.
Obama: Barack Obama wrote letters to city and state officials, as an Illinois legislator, in support of Tony Rezko’s successful bid to get more than $14 million from taxpayers to build senior citizen apartments. The funds included $855,000 in development fees for Rezko and his partner, Allison S. Davis, who was Obama’s former boss.

Father Michael Pfleger - An Obama friend, mentor and leader of the St. Sabina Church, donated $1,500 to Obama campaigns from 1995 to 2001.
Obama: Obama, as a state legislator, directed $225,000 of taxpayer funds to Father Pfleger’s St. Sabina Church for social programs.

University of Chicago Medical Center - Michelle Obama’s employer promoted her and increased her salary from $121,910 in 2004 to $316,962 in 2005, after Barack Obama was elected to the Senate.
Obama: Later, Obama requested $1 million dollars in earmarks for the UC Medical Center.

Adler Planetarium - In 2004 Frank Clark donated $5,000 to Obama’s Senate campaign. Mr Clark became the Adler Planetarium Chairman in 2005. Then Mr. Clark and two Vice Chairman of the Adler Planetarium Board of Trustees raised over $200,000 for Obama’s 2008 Presidential campaign.
Obama: In 2006 Obama requested a $300,000 earmark for the Adler Planetarium to replace a projection system. And, recently requested earmarks for the Planetarium have increased by $2.7 million dollars.

These examples appear to be the tip of the iceberg for Obama. It seems he cleaned up his act a bit for 2007 and 2008 as he started his Presidential bid. But, there are numerous other cases of Obama seeking earmark funds for those who have helped his campaigns or raised money for him. Here are a few more questionable earmarks while Obama was and Illinois legislator.
