As I write this letter a big name sports star is leaving a top team. He cost tens of millions in transfer fees, his wage bill for the team is colossal and he’s only half-way through a five-year contract …but he’s leaving.
And the reason is simple…
you have got to KEEP them!
This top sports star is moving on because he feels (rightly or wrongly) his employer (the team) did not look after him. He is unhappy …and it’s not about the money - He simply wants to enjoy life more and he feels his current team is stopping that happening.
And who are we to argue… If that’s how he feels, then that’s how it is. But let’s look at the business side – His team has now LOST A HUGE ASSET, their success is severely dented and there’s no quick fix.
