The power of YouTube's voting system is tremendous.

? I know it might not seem like much. I mean, all you do is either click the 'thumbs up' or the 'thumbs down' and you move along on your merry way.

But, what you do not realize is this: each and every time you vote on a YouTube video, you are directly affecting that video's viral potential.

Does that make sense? Because it very well should. In other words, each time you vote, the video is one step closer to exploding and going viral on Facebook, Twitter, and the like.

Sit back for a moment and try to remember the YouTube videos that have garnered the most votes in recent memory.

The first one belongs to Lady GaGa. Everybody knows how her video just took off and became famous worldwide.

The other video that recently went viral thanks to YouTube's voting system? Rebecca Black's music video for her song 'Friday.' However, quite contrary to the fame earned by Lady GaGa on YouTube, little Rebecca's video had well over 1 million dislikes before it was removed from YouTube.

? the damage had been done though. The video went viral. It was on CNN. It was on The Morning Show. It was on Comedy Central. Everywhere you looked, you saw this atrocity of a music video.

It just goes to show that the video going viral does not have to be incredible. It doesn't matter to those voting whether the video is horrible or not ? once they have spoken, they have spoken. It is their collective voice that can shoot a video into the stratosphere or to wither away in the dark corners of YouTube.

While it is quite easy to get caught up in the power of YouTube's voting system, there is something else about it that is even more intriguing to us Internet Marketers...

It really is.

For a quick comparison, think about the differences between YouTube's system and Facebook's ?Like? system. First and foremost, they both absolutely have the ability to make something go viral.

? there is no arguing that point.

However, I would argue until my face turned blue that YouTube's system is responsible for much more 'viral crazes' than Facebook can even dream of.

And there is one main reason for that...

? when using Facebook, people have to ?put themselves out there.? Whenever they 'Like' something, it is plastered all over Facebook and anybody who is connected to it can see.

Because of that, people are much more likely to go through YouTube videos by the dozen to vote on them. If they did that on Facebook, their friends would be fed up with their ?Wall? being plastered by ?Likes.?

? it truly is just a better system. The simplicity of it all is key to the success.

If you care at all about the number of visitors coming into your blog, you should be very interested.

? why?

Because a truly effective voting system on a blog can easily, and quickly, elevate the blog?s social standing.
