"The Big Ed plugin for WordPress is amazing!"

A prediction. This just might be the best plugin you buy all year. One that you use all the time for everything you do on all your WordPress driven sites.

Here's the background.

#1 - I wanted a way of being able to write enhanced sales copy on all my posts and pages without having to always resort to hiring a designer to create graphical elements for me to make it more presentable.

#2 - I wanted to be able to do it all on my own quickly so I didn't have to wait around for design work to come back.

(You have to work fast in this business, right? Idea-plan-execute.)

#3 - I wanted to be able to add Johnson boxes, a guarantee certificate, graphical bullet points and graphical separators (horizontal rules) so that I could break up long sections of text or sales copy.

(I've done a LOT of sales through my blogs, and they work like crazy if done right - 30%-50% sales conversions on clickthroughs. Don't ever let anyone tell you can only do it through a regular sales page - I've bust that myth wide open and totally to my satisfaction.)

#4 - I DIDN'T want to resort to using only HTML. I wanted to do it all in the default WordPress editor TinyMCE in visual mode.

#5 - I also wanted to be able to cure that annoying situation where Tiny MCE removes additional spaces and carriage returns when you publish or update your pages and posts. (That is SO maddening!)

#6 - And finally, I wanted to be able to change fonts and sizes and also colours and highlights, instead of being stuck with whatever the theme I was using dictated to me.

So...

After a long series of conversations over several weeks between me and my plugin developer, we came up with BIG ED.

The first of the graphical elements are the separators. These are really useful for breaking up long sections of text on a page.

All you do is place your cursor where you want to add a separator, and click the "Separators" button. Then select one of the 10 built in separators and a width (30 variants in all) and click "Apply".

Here what it looks like (with some examples underneath):-

Next, let's take a look at the Johnson boxes and certificate.

What we did is come up with some really nice looking built in pre-designed Johnson boxes that you can select from.

The pre-designed ones you can select from are "Certificate", "Box Blue", "Simple Shadow", "Box Yellow", "PS Box", "Bordered Blue", "Bordered Yellow".

All of these come in "Narrow", "Normal" and Wide" versions, making 21 variants in all.

You can also create a CUSTOM Johnson box.

The "Custom Colors" selection allows you to create almost unlimited Johnson Box variants. Clicking in the "Background Color" and "Border Color" fields will pop-up a colour picker where you can select the colours you want, border styles and thickness, and again you can choose from "Narrow", "Normal" and Wide" versions of any you create.

ALL of the Johnson boxes will automatically expand down as you add in more text.

Next up are the bullet points.

These are always useful for getting your message across. One marketer I know found that his best converting pages consisted mainly of bullet points and hardly any sales copy...

All you have to do is highlight your bullets, click the BIG ED bullets button and choose from 6 built in styles.

And that's it. That covers the three main formatting tools in Big Ed.

But... From the screenshot above you can see there are lots of other buttons now available to you too. The ones you'll probably use the most for your posts and pages are the smiley button, and the font family and size, and font colour and highlighting buttons.

There's one last thing worth noting before you go buy.

We also added a couple of little short code tags to bypass the overzealousness of the TinyMCE editor when "cleaning up" your edits for you.

Have you ever noticed when using TinyMCE that if you add in extra carriage returns or spaces to try to make your copy look better, then they'll get stripped out when you publish or update?

That used to drive me MAD until we added in these short code tags to fix it.

The short code tags are [br] and [nbsp], and simply put will allow you to add as many carriage returns and spaces in your sales copy as you like.

Cool huh?

I hope by now that you can see how useful BIG ED is for writing sales and other promotional copy on your WordPress sites.

Personally I also find myself using it in the majority of my blog posts now as it helps no end to spruce up what would otherwise be long stretches of plain text. (Hmm, that's probably a contributing factor as to why I get such good responses from my sales.)
