Saumitra Chaudhuri on Private Equity, Real Estate and Growth Sectors in India
In an exclusive video interview with VCCircle, Planning Commission member Dr Saumitra Chaudhuri talks candidly about the alternative asset classes who may soon trigger industrial growth as never before. Chaudhuri, a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, feels that mutual funds investing into VC/PE funds will be a good way to mobilise savings into this asset class, at a low cost. He is, however, cautious about insurance companies investing into PE funds. Real estate industry in India is another red flag as a lot of illegal money has gone into this sector and it needs further regulation. He also adds that growth in India is not a flash in the pan and is a more sustained and stable one, compared to China. According to Chaudhuri, infrastructure, farm products and the consumer sector are going to be the major growth drivers in the time to come.
