Thom Hartmann: Could the selling of pot become the next entrepreneurial boom?
Congressmen Pete Stark - Jared Polis - and Barney Frank introduced a serious of bills that protect medical marijuana entrepreneurs. The legislation classifies medical marijuana dispensaries as legitimate small businesses and thus able to take advantage of federal tax deductions just like any other small business. It also gives immunity from federal prosecution to any person or business in the medical marijuana industry as long as they are operating in compliance with state and local laws. Thom Hartmann speaks with David Selig, Conservative commentator and Allen St. Pierre, NORML

@jos3phmcgrath thts bc a persons diet is not contolled by the gov.
PEOPLE CAN ABUSE CHEESEBURGERS THEY DONT MAKE THOSE ILLEGAL
It should not be just for medical use , but for anyone's use. This prohibition is as rediculous as it was against alcohol in the 1920's. Anyone should be able to grow, sell, smoke, whatever and the government needs to stay the hell out of our business. They shouldn't tell anyone how much to drink, smoke cigarettes, nothing.
the only people making money on the market right now are those "black marketeers", so the thought that we wouldn't make that much money wouldn't make much sense. We are wasting insane amounts of money with this drug war.
The diatribe against David Selig is embarrassing. As a progressive [and a middle easterner] I believe passionately in full and fair discourse - it takes courage to appear on a nationally televised program without abandoning one’s principals. This is the “stuff” of champions.
"be that as it may" is such a marvelous way to dismiss any rational argument that gets made. Why didn't I think of that?? From now on, when someone says something I don't agree with, I'll just say "be that as it may" and pretend it's UNSAID. F'in GENIUS. I'm becoming a conservative right now so I can do this!
David Selig is a twat, a knob-rag... I just needed to clarify that.... thumbs up if you agree... (he finishes with how kind the viewers have been??? let us show the turd how kind we are!!) See you in 2012 David you vacuous parasite. --vote up!!
I dunno but I been an illegal pot smoker for years... and it has ALWAYS BEEN MY DREAM TO PAY TAXES ON IT AND GET IT IN A STORE!!!
@marvel398 great observation
The founding fathers would roll in their graves if they heard the argument that "we cannot realistically collect taxes on it", as a reason a activity/product should not be legal..
david selig's logic is about as good as his clothing coordination abilities.....
It's all about the money, screw the sick people that it helps. Is this what it comes down too?
@Davetech23
Heheh! It's funny! I've been working with IT, and tech support, and customer support for more than 7 years all over Europe.
In Hewlett Packard, people on the support lines would toke up one BEFORE work...
Some also toke up during the day. What really kills me, is that most of those people are highly skilled in their job.
How are U.S. political parties different from big business ??? XD
dun they know the game?
spend millions to lobby every politician.
So far as the "stoned people on the job vs safety" issue, the same rules and laws pertaining to alcohol can be applied to THC.
Ha! "your drug addled audience" For 10 years I worked operating IBM mainframes for a large firm in Atlanta and our supervisor scheduled long processes to coincide so we could all go up on the roof and smoke a joint. I'm talking about copping a buzz, not getting ripped.
Sure, some people will, and do, smoke irresponsibly, just as some people over-indulge in alcohol. But the vast majority of people use common sense and moderation.
alan is a dumb ass
It's time to end the insane, illegal, imoral war on a plant.
For 10,000 years people have smoked weed. Cannabis was a holy plant that Hindu and European Pagan Cults smoked in order to communicate with their gods. Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, Gauls, Persians, & native Americans used cannabis and other psycoactive herbs for recreation. People aren't gonna stop just cause some moralizing priest & a greedy businessman in a shiny suit told them they have too.
I'm fine pay more tax on weed better than going to mexican cartel.
Im a pot smoker I'm not a criminal
the FIRST LAWS WHERE MADE ON HEMP PAPER WAKE UP sheeple! decriminalize !!
"Could the selling of pot become the next entrepreneurial boom"
What do you mean "the next"?
do you have any idea how big the under-ground pot industry is?
It's like asking "Will porn become the next big thing in internet-entertainment?"
